Project Narrative This website is the result of cooperative effort between the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce Leadership Oshkosh teams of 1998-99 and 1997-98, and the Oshkosh Area School District. The thesis for a 97-98 project was to have kids of Oshkosh create pictures about what is beautiful about their city. The goal of the 1998-99 Leadership Oshkosh team was to take the steps necessary to see this theme become a visual reality. On a number of occasions in Fall 1998 and early 1999, team members met with Oshkosh Area School District Art Teachers to gather ideas, references, and discuss the end result of the project. The team collected hundreds of photographs and materials and presented them to the teachers. After sorting through all these sources. nine identical resource boxes for fourth graders at 18 different schools were created. Each fourth grader then created one drawing of Oshkosh using these resources. This website features only a small selection of these drawings. As an alternative to this electronic medium, look for the various poster displays of other beautiful artwork in empty storefronts along Oshkosh's Main Street and the shops at Park Plaza Mall. Children tend to see the world around them through less jaded eyes. Everyone associated with this project hopes the eyes of Oshkosh children have given us a genuine sense of what is beautiful about Oshkosh. Oshkosh ~ Through the Eyes of Children...
